Comic Mint your best source for rare, kooky, and classic animation art, is pleased to offer fans of the "George of the Jungle Show" this RARE Jay Ward Studio Scene Cel featuring Super Chicken and Fred.
As with most Jay Ward animated cartoons made for television, very few production cels survived. The growing popularity of animation cels, led to the Jay Ward Studio producing a series of hand-inked and hand-painted "Scene Cels” which were sold to collectors and fans at their Dudley Do-Right Emporium on Sunset Blvd during the 1980's. The cel measures 12.5" x 10.5” inches (unframed). The cel has been paired with a color copy reproduction background for presentation purposes, and is issued with a certificate of authenticity.
BACKGROUND INFO:
J Troplong "Jay" Ward (September 20, 1920 – October 12, 1989) was an American creator and producer of animated television cartoons.
He produced animated series based on such characters as Crusader Rabbit, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, Peabody and Sherman, Hoppity Hooper, George of the Jungle, Tom Slick and Super Chicken.
SUPER CHICKEN:
Super Chicken is a segment that ran on the animated television series George of the Jungle. It ran for 17 episodes on Saturday mornings from September 9th to December 30th, 1967, on the American TV network ABC.
Usually, Super Chicken (voiced by Bill Scott in a Boston Brahmin accent) with his lion sidekick Fred (whose inside-out sweatshirt left the “F” on his chest showing backwards, voiced by Paul Frees (impersonating Ed Wynn), begain their adventures with Super Chicken's battlecry: "Quick, Fred, to the 'Super-Coop!" (a play on the word coupe).
