Comic Mint, your best source for rare, kooky, and classic animation art, is pleased to offer this blast from the past publicity cel featuring ALVIN, THEODORE, AND SIMON from the classic “The Alvin Show”.
This is a publicity cel depicting the title card for The Alvin Show, Created by Ross Bagdasarian, who was riding the momentum of his original hit musical gimmick. He developed the singing Chipmunk trio as rambunctious kids-particularly the show's namesake star Alvin-whose mischief contrasted to his tall, brainy brother Simon and his chubby, gluttonous brother Theodore, as well as their long-suffering, perpetually put-upon manager-father figure, David Seville. The chipmunks were named after the executives of Liberty Records: Simon, Theodore, and Alvin, named for Simon "Si" Waronker, Theodore "Ted" Keep, and Alvin Bennett. The three characters are hand-inked and hand-painted onto acetate and paired with a copy of the matching print background.
The Alvin Show is an American animated television series that aired on CBS in the early 1960s. This was fht first series to feature the singing characters Alvin and the Chipmunks. The Alvin Show aired for one season, from October 4th, 1961, to March 28th, 1962 and was originally sponsored by General Foods through its Jell-O gelatin and Post Cereal brands. The Alvin Show (1961) was animated by Format Films, a studio founded in 1959 by former UPA animators Herb Klynn, Bud Getzler, and Jules Engel.
