Gene Colan and Frank Giacoia - Original Splash Page art to DAREDEVIL # 112 (Marvel, 1974).
Gene Colan's career on Daredevil has always been much admired by Marvel maniacs, and this superb bronze-age splash certainly shows why. Daredevil is hanging from a ladder, high above the New York skyline. This issue was notable for being the final issue to be inked by the great Frank Giacoia.
Gene Colan (born 1926) is one of the most revered comic artists of the twentieth century. Gene Colan's outstanding use of light and shade is arguably without equal in comics. His work takes on a cinematic quality, due to the many great film directors Colan has been influenced by. For me, Colan is THE definitive Daredevil artist, and no-one did Dr Strange or Iron Man better either. And let's not forget his superb work on Tomb of Dracula and Howard the Duck.
