Probably the world's best known rabbit, Bugs Bunny evolved into the brash character we know in the late 1930's in the Leon Schlesinger cartoon studios at Warner Brothers, dubbed "Termite Terrace" by it's employees. He first uttered his memorable "Eh, what's up Doc?" to Elmer Fudd in "THE WILD HARE" back in 1940, and the mischievous wabbit has been asking it ever since in the voice made famous by Mel Blanc. Until 1969 the cartoons were released or produced by Warner Brothers. Bugs' first comic book appearance was in 1941 in the first issue of 'Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies' and a Sunday newspaper strip started in 1943. Many cartoons, comic books and animated TV specials in the years since have been accompanied by a seemingly endless parade of merchandise, usually copyrighted by Warner Brothers. |
